Hello, hello! I am a new member and wish to introduce myself.

I am Jai and I am married to me dear hubby "Demon."
Branch: Air Force
PCSing in: Nebraska-Offutt AFB
Originally from: the fab state of TEXAS!

We are somewhat new to the whole military life (since 2002) -we are "old" newcomers-not the typical 18 or early 20-somethings. This is only our second PSC, our first being Aviano, Italy. (with several TDYs in between) I taught Kuk Sool Won (a Korean martial art) as an assistant instructor at our humble little school on the Aviano base.

We've been married for many years, and we just had our first child in winter 2005.

A difficulty for me is finding common interests with other spouses. Perhaps that is why I am described by most as a nontypical military spouse-ha! Whatever that means! I do not think I had to have a prescribed set of activities and hobbies to be an AF wife-just friendliness and open for new experiences!

Nice to meet you all! *sparkle sparkle*

Welcome, Jai!

Like you, i sometimes find it hard to find a lot of common ground with other AF spouses because of the 'latecomer' thing...either all the other new spouses are very young, or my age & been around the AF for a long time. Add in that we have no kids yet, and it leaves even less!

However, i generally find that most are very friendly and i get along well with them...it's just that outside of whatever project we may be working on together, there's little else that's common ground. But i keep volunteering when i can, as it's usually a lot of fun.

As an aside...we briefly visited Offutt last Sept. At least, we thought we were flying into there. But when we got off the C17, we learned that the airstip at the base was closed for repairs and we were actually at the airport! Lots of fun!

Hi! Thanks for the welcome!

Oh yes, for several years I too, was the something of an outsider because I had no kids. I once went to a spouses' "mixer" ("forced fun," if you will) and the president approached me to say hello and immediately asked if I had any children. Upon my negative answer, she basically said "Oh. Well. Ok. (awkward pause) It was nice talking to you."

As if I didn't count because of that one factor! I think that is why I liked teaching martial arts to kids and adults because they certainly did not care! Those classes certainly filled up my calendar in the otherwise rural Italian countryside, ^_^

Oh yes, this base JUST finished their scheduled repair of the landing strip! Now we have planes flying over us all the time. At least it is not noisy ones!

Oh, what a horrible story...but it just sounds spot on!

How in the world are those KC's not noisy?!?! They are sooo huge.

Once you've heard the graceful, soothing sounds of F15s & 16s over your head, you know what noisy can be! ^_^

LOL...that's pretty much all we get here! It's always fun explaining to people on the phone that they need to repeat the last 45 seconds of anything they just said! (:

In Aviano we had a cute little outdoor restaurant across the street where the 16s took off. So it's cover your ears, take a bite of your falafel, cover again. They always travel in pairs. ^_^
